The Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has hosted its 2026 Annual Workshop, a two-day event dedicated to elevating professional competence and driving best practices within the construction sector.

Held at the Da Jonah David Jang Conference Hall within the Ministry of Lands and Survey in Jos, the workshop convened builders, industry stakeholders, and construction professionals. This year’s deliberations centered on the theme: “Practical Preparation of Builders’ Documents for Efficient Construction Delivery.”

In her remarks, Bldr. Grace Pam Wang, Chairman of the NIOB Plateau State Chapter, explained that the annual training is a cornerstone of the institute’s mission to upskill its members and align them with modern industry shifts.

“Clients and society now demand higher standards,” Bldr. Wang noted. “It is imperative for builders to continuously update their knowledge, adapt to emerging technologies, and master modern applications used in drafting construction documents.”

She further stressed the critical nature of core regulatory documents, including work programmes, quality control plans, health and safety frameworks, and construction methodologies.

Highlighting the need for practical precision, Wang added that “You cannot prepare a methodology for a project without visiting the site. Every project carries unique, location-specific challenges. You must physically interact with the environment before drafting these documents for your client.”

Facilitating the technical sessions, Bldr. Isagoro Zamfara reframed construction methodology as a dynamic operational roadmap rather than a mere bureaucratic requirement for securing tenders.

“A project without a proper methodology is like a voyage without a map,” Bldr. Zamfara warned. He urged professionals to embrace project management technologies to streamline coordination and execution, noting that mastering these tools is vital for delivering structurally sound and professionally executed projects.

Echoing this sentiment, the Chairman  Planning Committee, Bldr. Mangai Tarzan Ahmadu, explained that the curriculum was intentionally structured to bridge the gap between academic theory and on-site reality.

He expressed satisfaction with the engagement levels, noting that the practical insights provided would immediately enhance participants’ field operations.

The workshop drew strong praise from participants, who described it as both timely and essential for navigating the complexities of modern construction.

Bldr. Kandy Chingle (FNIOB), Termed the sessions an “eye-opener,” stressing that because the construction landscape is constantly evolving, continuous learning is the only way for builders to remain relevant and effective.

Bldr. Japheth Dimka, Commended the chapter’s consistent progress and noted that the workshop successfully exposed local builders to global best practices in project documentation.

Bldr. Daniel Sani emphasized that real-world practice requires collective effort, noting that no single builder can master every facet of construction. He urged professionals to prioritize collaboration over competition, leveraging the NIOB network to freely consult and support one another when technical challenges arise on site.

Bldr. Adedeji Paul Adeleye (Immediate Past Chairman, Plateau NIOB), Concluded with a call for greater collaboration, urging builders to deepen their expertise in consultancy and documentation while leveraging peer reviews to maintain rigorous industry standards.

The successful conclusion of the 2026 workshop underscores the Plateau State NIOB’s ongoing commitment to eliminating building failures and ensuring efficient, technology-driven project delivery across the region.
