The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has emphasized that the success of the forthcoming local government council elections depends largely on the fairness and credibility of the electoral process. The party said transparent procedures are key to ensuring peaceful polls and public confidence.

The PDP made this known during a courtesy visit by its state leadership to the headquarters of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), as part of engagements ahead of the scheduled local government elections.

Speaking during the visit, the PDP State Vice Chairman North, Hon. Musa H. Sule, said the party’s message was clear that peaceful elections can only be achieved when all political parties are treated equally and electoral rules are strictly followed.

He explained that the visit was also meant to familiarize the party with the commission and formally introduce newly elected members of the PDP state executive committee.

Hon. Sule described the PDP as a critical stakeholder in Plateau State’s democratic process and noted that the party considers engagement with the electoral body a civic responsibility.

He commended PLASIEC for releasing the election timetable early and assured the commission of the PDP’s readiness to participate peacefully and in line with all guidelines.

The PDP leader stressed the need for continuous stakeholder engagement, urging the commission to guarantee a level playing field that would allow the true will of the people to prevail.

In response, the Chairman of PLASIEC, Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, welcomed the PDP delegation and congratulated the party officials on their recent emergence.

Hon. Cishak reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to professionalism, independence, and fairness, assuring that no political party would be disadvantaged in the electoral process.

He disclosed that PLASIEC has carried out institutional reforms since assuming office, including restructuring departments, strengthening staff capacity, and promoting accountability.

The chairman noted that the commission’s inclusive approach contributed to the peaceful conduct of the 2024 local government elections in the state.

He further assured that PLASIEC would continue to carry along all stakeholders, including women, youths, and persons with disabilities, as preparations continue for party primaries scheduled to hold between March 7 and March 12.
