The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State has appointed its immediate past State Chairman, Hon. Chris Adukuchili Hassan, as the Director-General of the 2027 governorship campaign of its flag bearer, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Samaila Achigak A. Rukuba.
The party said the appointment marks the beginning of a new phase of its campaign as it intensifies efforts to reclaim Government House, Little Rayfield, in the 2027 governorship election.
According to the statement, Hassan’s emergence as Director-General is a reflection of the confidence reposed in his leadership, political experience and grassroots mobilization capacity.
The PDP described the former state chairman, popularly known in political circles as “Mr. Power Capture,” as a seasoned party administrator and strategist with a proven record of delivering electoral victories.
It recalled that Hassan served as Plateau PDP Chairman from 2021 to 2025, during which he led the party to victory in the 2023 governorship election that produced Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Shortly after his appointment, Hassan paid a courtesy visit to Chief Ropshik, where both leaders held strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
The meeting focused on strengthening the campaign structure, expanding the Plateau First Movement across the grassroots and consolidating support in all the 17 local government areas of the state.
Chief Ropshik expressed confidence in Hassan’s ability to lead the campaign, saying his wealth of political experience would be instrumental to the success of the movement.
“I have every confidence in Hon. Chris Hassan’s capacity to provide purposeful leadership. Through unity, discipline and strategic coordination, the movement will continue to inspire hope and build the momentum required to secure victory in 2027,” Ropshik said.
Accepting the appointment, Hassan thanked the party leadership and Chief Ropshik for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with party leaders, stakeholders and members of the campaign council to deliver victory at the polls.
He called on party members to remain united, disciplined and loyal, stressing that every appointee must uphold the PDP’s values and winning tradition.
The party added that “the recovery of our stolen mandate remains a mantra for us,” expressing optimism that Hassan would drive the campaign towards success in 2027.
