The Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has officially sworn in its new executive members for the 2025–2027 term. The inauguration ceremony was a central part of a larger event that included fundraising, a dinner, and an award night, held at the Villa Grande Hotel in Rayfield, Jos.

The event attracted a wide range of professionals, including builders, architects, professors, and government officials. It served as a platform for networking, celebrating achievements, and setting the strategic direction for the institute’s activities in the coming years.

In his welcome address, the Immediate Past Chairman, Bldr. Adedeji Paul Adeleye, thanked God and expressed appreciation for the support of members during his tenure. He described the event as the conclusion of one era and the beginning of another for the chapter.

Reflecting on his time in office, Adeleye highlighted the chapter’s achievements in raising professional standards, promoting unity, and upholding ethics within the building profession. He acknowledged the challenges faced but expressed pride in what was accomplished during his leadership.

He urged the incoming executives to lead with integrity and inclusiveness, emphasizing the importance of collective effort. Adeleye also called for renewed support in fundraising for the Chapter Secretariat, describing it as a vital legacy project and a future center for professional development.

During the program, past executives were formally acknowledged before the newly elected members were introduced to the assembly. The transition marks a significant moment for the chapter’s continuity and growth.

The new leadership team for the Plateau State NIOB includes Bldr. Grace Pam Wang as Chairman, Bldr. Nanpan Habila as Vice Chairman, and Bldr. Martins Dung as Honorary Secretary. Other key officials include Mr. Reuben Shelyong as Assistant Secretary and Bldr. Bazza Victoria Simon as Treasurer.

Bldr. Grace Pam Wang made history by becoming the first woman to serve as Chairman of the NIOB in Plateau State. Her emergence is widely seen as a major step forward for gender inclusion and representation within the building profession.

The administration of the oath of office was conducted by Barr. Ochanya Fatoki, Esq, a legal practitioner, formally ushering in the newly elected executives and marking the official commencement of their tenure. This procedural step underscored the legitimacy and gravity of their new roles.

During the handover, Immediate Past Chairman Bldr. Adedeji Adeleye presented his stewardship report. He described it as a great honour to have served and stated his leadership was guided by the goal of strengthening the chapter and promoting professionalism.

He outlined major achievements, including an improved digital presence, the acquisition of land for a chapter secretariat, growth in membership, and stronger engagement with government and the national body. He expressed confidence that the new executives would build on these successes.

In her acceptance speech, Bldr. Grace Pam Wang expressed profound gratitude and humility as she accepted the responsibility of leading the institute. She described her historic emergence as a call to service, leadership, and positive change for all members.

She pledged to lead with a clear vision, unwavering professionalism, courage, and a spirit of inclusiveness. Her stated focus will be on enhancing training, mentorship, and capacity building to produce highly competent builders.

Furthermore, Chairman Wang emphasized her administration’s commitment to strengthening advocacy on building standards, site safety, and youth development within the sector. She outlined these as critical areas for the chapter’s impact.

A key operational priority will be to drive the completion of the chapter secretariat through strategic partnerships and dedicated fundraising efforts. She also reiterated her commitment to fostering greater gender inclusion within the chapter’s activities.

In his goodwill message, the Chief Launcher, Bldr. Yahaya Umar, represented by Bldr. Paul Zakka, commended the Plateau State NIOB for its unity and developmental strides. He made donation to kick-start the building project.

Other notable donations for the secretariat included Arc. Nankling, Engr. Dung Pwajok, Prof. Y.D Izam, Bldr. Sunday Amuna, represented by Bldr. Albert, and Hon. Jiritmwa Goyit among others.

The event also celebrated outstanding contributors to the profession, including Engr. Dung Pwajok, Bldr. Yahaya Umar, and Bldr. Adedeji Adeleye, among others.
