Security operatives have been mobilised across crisis-affected communities in Jos, Plateau State, as authorities intensify efforts to restore calm following renewed tension in the city.
The deployment comes in the wake of unrest that erupted shortly after the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed by the state government following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba.
Residents reported incidents of violence in several parts of Jos, with hoodlums targeting motorists and passersby, creating panic and disrupting movement.
In one of the incidents, a young man was reportedly killed near the University of Jos Permanent Site.
Several vehicles were also vandalised, with windscreens smashed in areas including Terminus and Bauchi Road.
Reports further indicated that some buildings, including places of worship, were set ablaze in parts of the city, particularly around the Nasarawa Gwom axis.
In response, security agencies, including the police and military, have increased patrols and presence in strategic locations to deter further breakdown of law and order.
Residents have expressed concern over the situation, calling for sustained security operations to ensure their safety and prevent escalation of violence.
A cross section of citizens also urged authorities to maintain strict surveillance, especially around residential areas and institutions where people remain vulnerable.
The University of Jos Alumni Association has also called for enhanced security presence, particularly around campuses and host communities.
Its Global President, Gad Peter Shamaki, appealed for round-the-clock patrols and intelligence-driven operations to address potential threats.
Meanwhile, sources within the Plateau State Police Command confirmed that operatives have been deployed to affected areas and are working to restore peace.
Although the police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, was not immediately available for official comments, authorities say efforts are ongoing to stabilise the situation.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
Security agencies have assured the public of their commitment to restoring lasting peace and preventing further violence across Jos and its environs.
