The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos has urged students to remain calm following growing security concerns in parts of the city.
In a press statement, the union assured that the university management, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, has put in place adequate measures to guarantee the safety of all students.
As part of the response, the SUG announced that evacuation arrangements will commence by 4:00 PM, with buses provided to move students residing within Jos to safer locations across the city.
Students are advised to get their belongings ready ahead of time and prepare for the evacuation process to ensure a smooth and orderly movement.
The union also addressed students around the Ring Road axis, urging them not to panic, as buses have been arranged to pick them up at designated points.
For those residing outside Plateau State, the SUG disclosed that further evacuation will take place the following morning to ease their movement out of the state.
According to the statement, such students will be conveyed from the university to Jos South, where they can access transportation to their various destinations.
Meanwhile, students who choose to remain within the university hostels have been assured of maximum security presence throughout this period.
The union emphasized that both the military and police will be deployed to provide 24-hour protection within the campus environment.
Students were strongly advised to avoid unnecessary movement, remain vigilant at all times, and await further updates as the situation develops.
