Leadership they say is measured not by words, but by actions, and in just 100 days as the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government, Honorable Silas Patrick Dung has set a remarkable standard for progress and innovation. His tenure so far reflects a commitment to impactful governance, addressing community needs, and laying the foundation for a brighter future.

After his landslide victory in the October 2024 local government election that saw him returned as the Executive Chairman of Jos South, Hon Silas Dung has set the LGA on a path of progress, completing several projects and mobilizing contractors back to site on numerous others.

Beginning with Healthcare, which is the backbone of any thriving community, Hon. Silas Dung has made it a priority, he has completed the renovation of the hospital at Nyango Ntah Gyel, and it stands as a major milestone, ensuring that residents have access to better medical facilities and care.

In his first 100 days in office, he has Invested in Education and Service, which shapes the future, and Hon. Silas Dung recognizes this. In Kuru, the Executive Chairman has ensured the transformation of the Local Government Guest House into a corps members’ lodge, a significant step in supporting educators and youth who dedicate their efforts to nation-building.

His administration believes that development isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about nurturing the spirit of the people, hence the completion of the Local Government Chapel as a testament to this holistic approach, symbolizing unity, faith, and community togetherness.

At the heart of the secretariat, Hon. Silas Dung has revitalized operations at the Local Government Secretariat with an extensive renovation that has transformed the facility into a more functional and welcoming environment. He has restored power, improved working conditions, and modernized the secretariat, fostering an efficient and productive atmosphere for governance. The establishment of an ICT center within the Secretariat further highlights his focus on empowering the youth with digital skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

To further enhance service delivery, the Chairman facilitated the purchase of Starlink, a wireless Internet service provider. This innovation ensures faster and more reliable connectivity within the local government, allowing for real-time communication, efficient operations, and improved accessibility to online resources and services.

To facilitate ease of doing business, Hon. Silas Dung’s administration has created a dedicated website for Jos South Local Government. This platform is designed to streamline business activities, provide valuable information, and help residents and investors know the variety of products and services available in different parts of the local government. This initiative enhances transparency and promotes economic growth.

With the understanding that security can promote innovation, economic growth, and human well-being, upon assuming office, Hon. Silas Dung embarked on strategic visits to heads of security agencies, emphasizing his commitment to the safety and well-being of Jos South residents. These engagements laid a foundation for stronger collaboration with security operatives, ensuring that the local government is proactive in safeguarding its people. This dedication to security has yielded significant results, as evidenced by the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed during the recent yuletide season.

Understanding the importance of addressing unemployment, his administration has enrolled youths in skill acquisition programs, equipping them with tools and knowledge for self reliance and sustainable livelihoods. This initiative has been well received, marking a bold step toward reducing unemployment in the region.

And this is just the beginning. The Executive Chairman has brought contractors back to several sites, driving progress on critical projects:

The town hall in Chugwi, Vwang District, which is 95% complete, is set to become a hub for community dialogue and engagement.

The ongoing construction of a bridge in Gura Dabwam, connecting Tanchol and Nyango, when completed will strengthen social and economic ties. And also the skill acquisition center in Gyel will equip residents with tools and knowledge to build sustainable livelihoods.

No progress happens in isolation. Hon. Dung’s achievements are rooted in the supportive leadership of His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State. Governor Mutfwang’s emphasis on youthful leadership and inclusive governance has created an enabling environment for transformative change.

In just 100 days, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung has demonstrated that leadership is about building more than infrastructure, it’s about building trust, hope, and opportunities for all.

The journey has only just begun, but the path is clear: a future of progress, inclusivity, and empowerment for the people of Jos South Local Government.

Christy Pam Makut
Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Jos South Local Government.
