The Chief Medical Director of Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, Prof. Christopher Sabo Yilgwan, marked his 50th birthday with a ceremonial golf kitty that attracted over 150 golfers from across the country. The event was held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Lamingo Golf Club, Jos.
Friends, colleagues, family members, and golf enthusiasts gathered at the club for the ceremonial tee-off, celebrating the milestone birthday in an atmosphere filled with sportsmanship, camaraderie, and goodwill.
In his opening remarks, the Captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Mr. Silas Vem, congratulated Prof. Yilgwan on attaining the golden age of 50. He noted that celebrating his birthday on the golf course reflected the CMD’s passion for fitness and healthy living.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, also congratulated Prof. Yilgwan on the milestone. He praised his leadership at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, noting that his contributions and commitment inspired staff and well-wishers to turn out in large numbers. He prayed for God’s continued wisdom and strength upon the celebrant.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Yilgwan expressed gratitude to all who gathered to celebrate with him. He described the turnout as a great honour and thanked friends, colleagues, and family members for their love and support.
A birthday song was rendered in honour of the celebrant, after which Prof. Yilgwan officially kicked off the tournament. Other golfers who took turns at the tee-off included Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, Dr. Kefas Zawaya, Mr. Jacob Dung, Director of Administration at Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Williams Golit, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Arc. Suleiman Umar representing KOSA, and Hadassah Yilgwan representing the Academy.
Several teams participated in the tournament, competing across different categories. After hours of play, golfers, guests, and well-wishers were hosted to a reception at the Lamingo Golf Club House, where goodwill messages were delivered by friends, family members, and club officials.
On behalf of the Lamingo Golf Club, Mr. Silas Vem congratulated Prof. Yilgwan, urging him to continue making thoughtful decisions in leadership, noting that society expects more from individuals who have gained experience over the years.

Speaking for the family, Chief Robert Taple described Prof. Yilgwan as an icon in Mupun land and expressed pride in identifying with him. He prayed for good health, long life, and continued success.
Representing friends, Dr. Kefas Zawaya described the celebrant as reliable and dependable.
Highlights of the celebration included the presentation of gifts and trophies to deserving professional and amateur golfers who recorded outstanding performances. This was followed by the cutting of the 50th birthday cake, photographs, dancing, and general merriment.
In recognition of his outstanding leadership and sportsmanship, the Sports Committee of Plateau State Specialist Hospital presented an Award of Excellence to Prof. Yilgwan for his transformative impact on the hospital.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Yilgwan thanked everyone who came to celebrate with him and prayed for God’s blessings upon all. The event ended with a closing prayer, after which guests continued with networking, dancing, and exchange of pleasantries.
