The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a man impersonating a soldier, Yakubu Abdullahi, in connection with recent violent attacks in Jos, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing security crackdown. The arrest comes amid heightened operations following attacks that left communities in fear.

Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, confirmed that Abdullahi, 26, was apprehended wearing military camouflage, carrying a forged identity card from the Nigerian Military School, and attempting to deceive victims.

In the same operation, six other suspects, including Matthew Musa, 27, who was found with two locally made firearms, were also arrested. All seven suspects are now in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations and are expected to be charged to court.

Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, has ordered the deployment of additional personnel to volatile areas in Jos and surrounding communities to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.

“The Command will not fold its arms and allow miscreants to exploit the situation. Anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the law,” the police statement emphasized.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected in Jos to sympathize with victims and assess security firsthand. The University of Jos has also activated emergency measures to protect students and staff from potential risks.

The arrest of the alleged fake soldier has reassured residents, even as they continue to call for justice and sustained security measures to end the cycle of violence in Plateau State.
