The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects and recovered cannabis, controlled drugs, and other illicit substances during a major operation targeting drug hotspots in Jos.
The raid, conducted on June 20, 2026, was carried out by a joint security team led by the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with officers from Anglo-Jos Division, the Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, Monitoring Unit, and Eagle Eye Patrol Team.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, the operation focused on identified criminal hideouts at Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction, areas known for the sale and distribution of cannabis and other banned substances.
The police said the coordinated operation led to the arrest of 25 suspects, while various exhibits, including suspected illicit drugs and controlled substances, were recovered from the scene.
The Command disclosed that all suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation, while recovered items have been secured as evidence.
Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating drug-related crimes and dismantling criminal networks operating within Plateau State.
He commended the officers involved in the operation for their bravery, professionalism, and teamwork, noting that intelligence-driven operations would continue across the state.
The police boss also called on residents to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information, warning that anyone involved in drug trafficking or other criminal activities would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Plateau State Police Command assured residents of its determination to safeguard lives and property while working towards a safer and drug-free society.
