The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a suspected fake news peddler and 21 alleged members of the notorious “Sara-Suka” cult group in a major crackdown on criminal activities within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

The arrests were carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, as part of intensified efforts to maintain peace and security across Plateau State, especially during the Ramadan period.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the operation also led to the arrest of a social media user accused of spreading inciting content capable of disrupting public peace.

Police revealed that earlier in the month, a viral TikTok video posted via the handle @townboii1 circulated widely, with the individual allegedly making statements aimed at causing unrest in the state.

The Command confirmed that the originator of the video, identified as Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, 16, alongside his accomplice, Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, 19, both residents of Rikkos in Jos, have been arrested by operatives.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime, and police authorities stated that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police had directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team leaders to intensify patrols and conduct raid operations across their jurisdictions.

This directive led to the arrest of 21 suspected members of the “Sara-Suka” cult syndicate at different locations within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

The suspects are currently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and are expected to be charged to court for prosecution.

CP Ewah commended the efforts of officers involved in the operations, noting their dedication and commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He urged them to sustain the momentum in flushing out criminal elements, while also calling on residents of Plateau State to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear.

The Command reassured the public of its readiness and capacity to ensure safety across the state and encouraged citizens to report emergencies through designated police contact lines.
