The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Southern Zone Vice Chairman, Hon. Mankup Peter Tongshep, over alleged misconduct.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect from Tuesday, March 17, 2026, was announced in an official statement issued by the party leadership.

The statement, signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Choji Felix Dalyop, PhD, said the decision was taken by the State Working Committee (SWC) in line with the party’s constitution.

“The decision is pursuant to the powers vested in the State Working Committee (SWC), under Section 57 (1) of the Constitution of the PDP, 2017 (As Amended),” the statement read.

The PDP described the action as a strategic step following a preliminary hearing into the conduct of the suspended official.

“It followed a preliminary hearing regarding his conduct, and actions that fall within the contemplation of Sections 58 (1) (i) and (j) of the PDP Constitution,” the party stated.

According to the party, the suspension will last for a period of one month pending further investigation.

“In accordance with Section 57 (3), the individual in question is suspended for a period of one month, and during this time, he ceases henceforth to function as the Vice Chairman, Southern Zone,” the statement added.

The PDP further disclosed that the matter has been referred to its Disciplinary Committee for detailed examination and necessary recommendations.

“In the interest of justice and fair hearing, the SWC has referred Hon. Mankup Peter Tongshep to its Disciplinary Committee for further interrogation and subsequent recommendations,” it stated, reaffirming its commitment to discipline and the rule of law.
