The Plateau State Government has expressed profound sorrow over the killing of traders attacked along the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area route. The victims were traveling from Jos to Pankshin for business when the incident occurred.

In a show of sympathy and solidarity, officials visited the bereaved families at Gangare Community in Jos North Local Government Area. The government reassured them of its full support during this difficult time.

The delegation was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Nanchang Jatau, who represented Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. The visit sought to console the families and affirm the government’s commitment to justice and security.

Speaking at the gathering, Arc. Jatau stated that the government came to personally identify with the families’ pain.

“We are here to console the families, to show that we feel the pain of what has happened, and to assure you that justice will be meted out. Government and security agencies are working day and night to fish out the perpetrators of these attacks.”

He further disclosed that security agencies have been directed to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible. He stressed that the attacks should not be allowed to reverse the relative peace the state has recently enjoyed.

“We have been enjoying peace for some time, and we must learn to find a meeting point to live together in peace, because we did not choose our religion or background.”

Arc. Jatau also noted that investigations are ongoing. He described the victims as innocent people who lost their lives while engaged in legitimate activities.

He urged community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, especially on social media.

“False and inciting posts could worsen the situation rather than help the state heal and move forward.”

The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Barr. John Kyohroh Christopher, thanked the state government and security agencies for standing with the affected families.

“We want to especially appreciate Your Excellency for taking time out of your tight schedule to visit us. From the beginning, you have been on top of this situation and have played a major role in ensuring stability and proper handling of the matter.”

He noted that the victims were residents who lost their lives while traveling for legitimate purposes. He added that the government’s swift intervention ensured proper investigations and a dignified burial for the deceased in line with Islamic rites.

Alhaji Sani Muazu, the Makaman of Jos North, described the incident as a painful moment that disrupted a long period of relative peace. He said the attack revived fear and tension, particularly among the youth.

“As community leaders, we met with the families and assured them that we have a listening government and that this is a time when peace is needed even more than before. Despite the pain, our people showed restraint and understanding.”

He commended local government officials and others involved in rescue efforts. He called on the government to ensure the perpetrators are identified and punished to prevent future occurrences.

He also urged continued support for the bereaved families to help them cope with their loss and rebuild trust in the system.
