Nigerian rapper Jesse Jagz has stirred fresh reactions online after replying to a month-old tweet by Afrobeats star Davido. The exchange has reignited conversations around the direction of Nigerian music.

Davido had earlier tweeted about using amapiano, a sound that has gained massive popularity across Africa and beyond. His comment attracted different reactions from fans and industry observers.

Reacting to the tweet, Jesse Jagz shared his thoughts on social media, expressing concern over what he sees as a shift away from Afrobeats. In his words, “Continue dey use amapiano dey yenk us. No focus on afrobeat.”

The rapper went further to criticise the trend-driven approach of some artists. He suggested that Afrobeats was abandoned in favour of another sound simply to follow what was popular at the time.

Jesse Jagz also claimed that those who truly appreciate the amapiano sound are now benefiting from it. According to him, artists who left Afrobeats are unhappy that others are gaining recognition with the same sound.
