Rt. Hon. Dalyop Fom Gwottson, popularly known as “Banga by Nature,” has formally declared his intention to vie for the Plateau North Senatorial seat on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The declaration, made on January 30, 2026, drew a massive crowd as supporters thronged the Jos South PDP Secretariat and the Northern Zone PDP office, filling the venues to capacity in a show of solidarity and confidence in his aspiration.
Gwottson, a Doctor of Philosophy and a seasoned grassroots politician from Kuru B Ward, Kuru District of Jos South, is widely regarded for his people-oriented leadership style and commitment to service delivery. Supporters say he has earned their trust through years of visible impact and accessibility.
His political journey spans key roles, including Liaison Officer in Lagos, State Assistant Organising Secretary, and two-time Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. He later emerged as Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly, a tenure cut short by what he described as an unfortunate setback to democratic choice.
Addressing party members and supporters, Gwottson emphasized the need to restore the people’s mandate and deepen democratic participation, stressing that leadership must remain anchored on service, inclusion, and accountability.
The declaration signals a new phase in the Plateau North senatorial contest, with party stakeholders describing Gwottson’s entry as a boost to the PDP’s prospects in the zone.
As preparations for the forthcoming elections gather momentum, supporters say the growing enthusiasm around “Banga by Nature” reflects a renewed determination among the electorate to make their votes count and shape the future of representation in Plateau North.
