With immediate effect, the governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the Mangu Local Government Area. This came as the local security situation began to deteriorate.
According to a press statement issued by The Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, that Governor Mutfwang made the choice following discussions with the pertinent security organisations. He declared that, until further notice, only those performing vital duties inside the Local Government area are permitted to relocate.
In order to restore peace and order in the area, he asked all individuals, especially those who resided in the Mangu Local Government area, to abide by the order and support the security forces by giving accurate information.
He bemoaned the fact that, in spite of the government’s efforts to put a stop to terrorist elements’ operations, some people are still determined to foster an atmosphere of insecurity in the state.
He sent his condolences to the relatives of the deceased and injured, as well as his assurance that the government would not back down in its efforts to establish enduring peace in the state. As soon as the security situation improves, he stated, the curfew will be revisited.
