The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has commenced a court-ordered rerun of its primary election in 11 wards of the Jos East/Jos South Federal Constituency.

The exercise follows a High Court ruling directing the party to conduct another primary in the affected wards.

Speaking at a press briefing at the APC state secretariat, the state chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, said the party had resolved to comply with the court’s directive.

“Despite the fact that we are the party in control of the government, we have subjected ourselves to that ruling, and today we intend to follow the order of the court to conduct a rerun in the 11 wards of Jos East/Jos South Federal Constituency,” Bature said.

He explained that the exercise had been scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. but was delayed briefly to allow the party to address journalists before the electoral team proceeded to the field.

The chairman of the rerun committee, Hon. Karu Simon Elisha, said the committee was in Plateau State on the directive of the APC national secretariat to implement the court’s decision.

He said the committee would ensure transparency, compliance with electoral guidelines and a level playing field for all eligible aspirants.

“We want to be very transparent and give every member of the All Progressives Congress an equal playing ground. We will entertain every concern of the party member,” Elisha said.

He added that the rerun would take place across the 11 wards, with results to be announced after collation.

Elisha said the appeal committee would receive complaints from aspirants on Thursday and Friday, allowing those dissatisfied with the process to seek redress.

He clarified that only aspirants who participated in the previous primary election would be eligible to contest in the rerun.
