Plateau State has a new Commissioner of Police, CP Faniyan Ayodeji, who has officially assumed duty with a pledge to strengthen security and improve policing across the state.

Speaking during his maiden media briefing in Jos, Ayodeji said his administration would prioritise public safety, accountability, professionalism and respect for human rights.

The new Commissioner pledged to tackle police brutality, corruption, extortion, abuse of power and other forms of misconduct within the command.

He assured residents that officers found engaging in unprofessional conduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures, stressing that the protection and dignity of human life would remain a priority.

Ayodeji also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration with sister security agencies, intelligence bodies, community leaders and residents to effectively address security challenges across the state.

He disclosed that the command’s anti-vice squads would be restructured to adopt modern, intelligence-led and human-rights-compliant policing techniques.

The CP further said public complaint channels would be revitalised to make it easier for residents to report grievances, police misconduct and security emergencies.

Ayodeji also warned residents against jungle justice, describing mob action as a criminal offence and urging the public to allow the law to take its course.

He assured the people of Plateau that the command would adopt proactive policing, ensure swift prosecution of suspects and work with communities to maintain peace and security across the state’s 17 local government areas.
