Renowned Nollywood filmmaker and award-winning director, Dimbo Atiya, has died after a brief illness.
Atiya passed away on Thursday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), according to a statement issued by his family and signed by SP Benson Atiya (Rtd).
“With hearts full of sorrow yet in submission to the will of Almighty God, the Atiya family announces the passing of our beloved son, husband, brother, and friend, Dimbo Atiya,” the statement read.
The family described the late filmmaker as a visionary whose creativity, dedication and mentorship shaped many lives and contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.
“Dimbo was a visionary and award-winning filmmaker, whose work and mentorship touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s creative industry,” the statement added.
It noted that his passing represents “a great loss to our family, the creative community, and the nation,” as tributes continue to pour in for the celebrated filmmaker.
The family said funeral and burial arrangements would be announced in due course and appealed to friends, colleagues and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers.
“We ask that you keep the Atiya family in your prayers,” the statement said.
