The Federal Government has received 258 Nigerians who voluntarily returned from South Africa, as part of ongoing efforts to support citizens facing challenges abroad.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, said the government’s priority extends beyond ensuring the safe return of the citizens to helping them rebuild their lives.
According to the minister, the returnees were provided with reintegration support, including starter packs and financial assistance to help them reconnect with opportunities and begin a new chapter.
“While their safe return is important, our focus now is on what comes next: restoring dignity, rebuilding lives, and creating pathways to opportunity.”
Doro commended the organizations, institutions, and individuals that contributed to the successful reception and reintegration of the returnees.
“Their contributions demonstrate the power of collaboration in helping vulnerable citizens regain stability and hope.”
The minister noted that profiling conducted after the reception would provide valuable information to guide future interventions and improve support systems for vulnerable Nigerians.
He stressed the need to strengthen systems that address vulnerability, expand opportunities, and promote sustainable livelihoods across the country.
“Every Nigerian deserves dignity. Every Nigerian deserves opportunity. And every Nigerian deserves the chance to thrive.”
Doro welcomed the returnees back home and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians have access to opportunities for a better future.
