The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to providing sustainable solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable communities across the country.
Doro made the pledge while delivering the keynote address at the 2026 World Refugee Day Stakeholder Dialogue on Protection Solutions and Solidarity held at the ECOWAS Commission Auditorium in Abuja.
The event, themed “Until Everyone is Safe,” commemorated the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention and brought together key stakeholders in the humanitarian sector.
“Refugee protection is not merely a humanitarian obligation but a shared responsibility rooted in human dignity, solidarity, and justice,” the minister said.
He noted that increasing displacement caused by conflict, insecurity, climate change, and economic shocks requires a renewed commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.
According to Doro, the Tinubu administration is implementing policies that connect emergency humanitarian assistance with long-term development outcomes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Through these measures, we are moving from palliatives to pathways, ensuring that displaced persons, refugees, and host communities can transition from vulnerability to resilience and self-reliance.”
The minister said strengthened social protection systems, data-driven interventions, livelihood support programmes, and strategic partnerships remain central to the government’s approach.
He commended the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), UNHCR, ECOWAS, development partners, humanitarian actors, and host communities for their continued support.
“Together, we must ensure that our policies, investments, and actions bring us closer to a future where every displaced person can live in safety, dignity, and hope,” Doro added.
