The Plateau State Association, USA, Inc. (PSA-USA) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba and surrounding communities in Jos, Plateau State.
“These senseless acts of violence have once again plunged our beloved state into mourning, leaving behind shattered families, traumatized communities, and a deep sense of collective loss,” the association stated.
PSA-USA lamented that Plateau State, widely known as the Home of Peace and Tourism, must not continue to be defined by recurring cycles of bloodshed.
The group noted that the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reflects the seriousness of the situation but stressed that more concrete action is needed.
“The people of Plateau require more than symbolic gestures – they require immediate protection, accountability, and a clear, sustained commitment to ending these atrocities,” the statement added.
PSA-USA extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with affected communities across the state and in the diaspora.
“We stand in solidarity with every community affected by this violence. Your grief is shared by Plateau indigenes across the world,” the group said.
The association called for the immediate deployment of well-equipped security personnel to vulnerable areas, emphasizing the need for proactive civilian protection.
It also demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the killings, insisting that justice must be served.
“A time-bound, independent inquiry must be conducted, with findings made public and perpetrators, regardless of status, prosecuted,” PSA-USA stated.
The group further urged authorities to ensure accountability at all levels, including addressing any lapses by security agencies or local officials.
PSA-USA emphasized the need for early warning and rapid response systems through community-based intelligence to prevent future occurrences.
“Establishment of functional community-based intelligence and rapid response mechanisms is essential to prevent further tragedies,” it noted.
In addition, the association called for urgent humanitarian support, including medical care, psychological assistance, and fair compensation for victims.
It also stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of violence through a structured long-term framework.
“A sincere, structured approach must address underlying issues such as land disputes, ethnic tensions, and governance gaps,” the statement read.
PSA-USA reiterated its support for far-reaching security reforms, including the establishment of state police as part of a more responsive system.
“The current centralized security structure has proven insufficient to address increasingly localized and evolving threats,” the association added.
The group urged citizens to remain calm, avoid provocation, and reject divisive narratives, stressing that unity is critical at this time.
“To leaders at all levels, we say this: the protection of life is the most fundamental duty of government. Plateau State cannot continue to endure preventable tragedies without decisive intervention,” PSA-USA concluded.
The statement was signed by Dr. Barth Shepkong, President of the association, who reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and justice in Plateau State.
