President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken decisive steps to address the worsening insecurity in Plateau State following recent deadly attacks.

During an emergency visit to the state on Thursday, the President ordered the immediate installation of 5,000 CCTV cameras across identified flashpoints.

The directive was issued during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos.

The visit followed the killings in Angwan Rukuba, where at least 28 persons were killed by unidentified gunmen.

Tinubu also approved the formation of a delegation of key stakeholders to engage in further discussions on lasting solutions to the crisis.

He condoled with families of the victims and directed that support be provided to cushion their losses.

Addressing stakeholders, the President stressed the need for unity and collective action to end the cycle of violence.

“We must break the shackles of violence, ignorance, poverty, and hopelessness together,” he said.

He assured residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and preventing a recurrence of such incidents.

Tinubu also revealed plans to expand the stakeholder committee and introduce data-driven support measures for affected families.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described the President’s visit as timely and reassuring, noting that it reflects strong federal commitment to tackling insecurity.

He expressed optimism that Plateau would overcome its challenges and return to its status as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”

The governor also called for continued federal support and further engagements to develop long-term peace strategies.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said the CCTV project would include artificial intelligence-enabled surveillance systems, starting with Jos.

Traditional rulers and other leaders, including the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, praised the President’s intervention and called for sustained dialogue to address the long-standing insecurity in the state.
