The Plateau State Government has arrested two women over the alleged trafficking of three girls to Ghana for prostitution.

One of the suspects, identified as Mrs. Yakubu, who is pregnant, is a bar owner operating in the Rantya community of Jos South Local Government Area. She was paraded alongside the rescued victims at the headquarters of the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission in Jos.

Chairperson of the commission, Barr. Olivia Dazyam, disclosed that investigations revealed the girls were taken out of the country under false pretences and forced into prostitution. She added that one of the suspects allegedly involved her own daughter in the trafficking operation.

Dazyam warned that the Plateau State Government would not tolerate human trafficking in any form, stressing that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.

She also called on women across the state to actively support efforts to end human trafficking by reporting suspicious activities and protecting vulnerable girls.

One of the suspects, however, claimed she only assisted the girls in securing jobs abroad. The victims, on their part, told authorities that they were deceived and later coerced into prostitution.

The commission confirmed that the matter has been handed over to the Plateau State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
