The Jos Main Market Authority has confirmed a minor fire outbreak at the Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State.
The incident occurred in the late hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025, prompting concern among traders and members of the public.
According to a press statement issued by the General Manager, Hon. Mangna Yusuf Wamyil, contain that preliminary on-the-spot assessments show that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be conclusively determined.
Initial observations suggest the incident may have been linked to an unattended source of heat within the market area, although investigations are still ongoing.
The Authority disclosed that the situation was promptly brought under control due to the swift response of officers and men of the Federal Fire Service and the Plateau State Fire Service.
Their timely intervention ensured that the fire was successfully extinguished, limiting its impact to only a small section of the market.
Following the incident, security agencies were deployed to the area to secure traders’ properties and maintain law and order.
The Jos Main Market Authority confirmed that normal activities have largely returned to the market.
Management also revealed that steps are already being taken, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, to assess the situation and support traders affected by the incident.
Efforts, the Authority said, are aimed at providing relief and assistance to those impacted as quickly as possible.
The Management reassured traders and the general public that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority.
It added that further updates will be communicated to stakeholders as investigations continue and additional measures are put in place.
