Former Member of the House of Representatives, Bitrus B. Kaze, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing long-standing internal injustices, victimization, and abuse of power within the party structure in Plateau State.
In his resignation letter dated June 2, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Shere West Ward, Jos East LGA, Kaze expressed appreciation for the opportunity the party gave him to serve but lamented the internal crisis and victimization he endured.
“I admit with gratitude that the PDP afforded me a platform to serve, but the records give credence to my service trajectory. Amidst what Justice Adamu Bello characterized as the ‘tyranny of the majority’ that led to my 2010 suspension from the House of Reps, the Plateau state government twice nominated me for National Honours.”
He recalled that after suggesting the zoning of the 2015 PDP gubernatorial ticket to Plateau South, he faced backlash and was labelled “Enemy of Plateau,” a title he described as part of a broader campaign of character assassination.
“However, all hell was let loose after I suggested that the 2015 PDP gubernatorial ticket be zoned to Plateau South. I’ve been tormented, ostracized and subjected to all manner of character mutilation including my clandestine proclamation as ‘Enemy of Plateau.’”
Kaze also condemned the manipulation of party primaries in Jos East. According to him, in 2014, four out of five council chairmanship aspirants were disqualified on the eve of the primary election without explanation.
“In December 2014, the PDP disqualified 4 out of the 5 council chairmanship aspirants in Jos East on the eve of their primary election without any reason whatsoever. The venue of the election was moved to Jos North where elections had been suspended ‘for security reasons.’”
He stated that despite all executive members in his home ward, Shere West, being re-elected in the 2024 PDP congresses, the decision was brazenly overturned by the party’s command center in Jos, which he described as a violation of democratic norms.
“The Jos East PDP EXCO who emerged via court-ordered LGA congress in 2021, were replaced in bulk at the LGA congresses of 2024, when their four-year tenure had not elapsed.”
Kaze accused some powerful figures in the party of unjustly targeting him and his supporters. He said their only offense was advocating due process and refusing to be part of political manipulations.
He expressed concern that innocent members of the party continued to suffer persecution simply because they chose to support him. Kaze stated that he could no longer allow his presence to be used as an excuse to disenfranchise others.
“I may strive to develop a thick skin against all forms of malevolent storms, but I shouldn’t continue to be the reason why innocent individuals continue to be disenfranchised. Accordingly, I resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect, hoping that this pacifies the garrison commanders at the state party secretariat to end the spate of persecutions.”
He apologized to those he could not consult before reaching the decision, noting that “dire times deserve daring measures.” His PDP membership card was attached to the letter.
Kaze concluded by forwarding a copy of his resignation to the PDP State Chairman, signaling a formal and final disengagement from the party.
