Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the country’s shared heritage outweighs ethnic, religious, and political differences.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during a visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, HRH Da Jacob Gyang Buba, in Jos.

“We are all connected one way or the other. What binds us together as Nigerians supersedes what separates us,” Shettima said, emphasizing that unity is key to national progress.
The Vice President described traditional rulers as vital stakeholders in nation-building, noting their role as custodians of culture and promoters of peace within their communities.
“They are not just custodians of our cultural heritage; they also help uphold society by preaching peace among their subjects,” he added.
Sen. Shettima was in Plateau State for the grand reception of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other politicians into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He lauded the cordial relationship between Governor Mutfwang and APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, saying the realignment will bring peace and developmental dividends to the state.
“The National Chairman was an opponent of the Governor at the last election, but today they have agreed to work together. There can be no development without peace,” he said.

The Gbong Gwom Jos, HRH Da Jacob Gyang Buba, welcomed the Vice President and urged continued efforts to ensure security and reconciliation across the country.
“On behalf of the traditional council, I appreciate our security agencies’ efforts but call for more security and true reconciliation in all parts of the nation,” he said.
The Vice President’s entourage included Governor Mutfwang, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, the APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, former Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, and members of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs.
The visit concluded with a stakeholders’ engagement, where discussions focused on unity, peace, and development in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
