The National and State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Plateau State on Tuesday overturned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Dachung Bagos’ victory in the February 25 election in Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency.
Bagos, a two-term congressman, was proclaimed the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of Jang Alfred of the Labour Party.
The LP candidate, on the other hand, disputed INEC’s declaration on two grounds.
The petitioner told the tribunal that extensive anomalies occurred in numerous voting locations in the constituency during the election.
Alfred also petitioned the tribunal to overturn Bago’s election due to his party’s invalid candidacy.
In its decision, the tribunal agreed with the LP candidate that Bagos was improperly nominated by the PDP and proclaimed the petitioner the election winner.
The panel directed INEC to revoke the PDP candidate’s certificate of return and issue a new one to Alfred.
