Senator Istifanus D. Gyang, former representative of Plateau North Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending nearly a decade-long affiliation with the party.

In a letter dated May 26, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Rafan Ward, B/Ladi LGA of Plateau State, Senator Gyang announced his resignation, which he described as a difficult but necessary decision.

The senator noted that his decision was fueled by the PDP’s departure from its core democratic ideals and the values that once inspired people-centered governance.

He lamented that despite his years of passionate membership and commitment, the party’s direction has changed, especially after the 2023 electoral cycle.

According to Senator Gyang, the PDP has strayed from democratic tenets and no longer reflects the hopes and aspirations of its original supporters.

He further cited the growing deficiencies in the party’s leadership and apparatus, which he said have failed to promote Plateau State’s strategic interests in the national political space.

The senator criticized the party’s current inability to effectively navigate and mainstream policies that benefit the people of Plateau State.

He described the party’s influence in today’s political landscape as “feeble, if not lacking,” and called for urgent attention to fairness, inclusivity, and equity in governance.

Senator Gyang reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Plateau State, pledging to remain a strong advocate for good governance and an open political space for all.

The letter was also copied to the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State.

This development adds to the growing wave of resignations and realignments within the PDP, especially in Plateau State.

Political observers are closely watching to see what Senator Gyang’s next political move will be as the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
