The rich culture of the Ngas Nation took center stage at the Pankshin Mini Stadium on Saturday, 26th April, as thousands converged for Puusdung 2025—the annual cultural festival of the Ngas people in Plateau State.
The event, a key highlight of the Ngas cultural calendar, attracted dignitaries, government officials, lawmakers, and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond. Attendees were treated to vibrant displays of traditional music, dance, and heritage.

Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, urged the people to prioritize peace and unity, stressing that sustainable development thrives in a harmonious society. Addressing the massive crowd, he reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering brotherhood among all ethnic groups in the state.
“I am here out of respect for the Ngolong Ngas and the entire Ngas Nation. I commend you for reviving this remarkable cultural festival,” Governor Mutfwang said. “As a government, we are determined to promote our cultural heritage as part of our tourism and development agenda. However, I appeal that cultural celebrations be kept free from partisan politics.”
He called on Plateau residents to unite for collective progress, emphasizing that solidarity is key to overcoming the state’s challenges.

Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South, highlighted culture as a vital tool for tackling security, economic, and developmental issues. He expressed concern over the decline of traditional values like honesty, tolerance, and justice, which he said has weakened societal cohesion.
Senator Lalong praised the Ngas Nation for sustaining Puusdung, describing it as a platform for cultural revival and unity. He urged the Ngas people to continue championing peace and progress wherever they are.

Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, thanked the Ngas Nation for their consistent support beyond political and religious lines. He stressed that cooperation is essential for community growth.
The President of the Ngas Development Association lauded the impressive turnout, stating that the festival’s success reflects the people’s resilience and readiness to collaborate with the government for Ngas land’s advancement.

Adding to the celebrations, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, pledged continued support to his constituents. He announced a donation of ₦15 million for the festival and restated his commitment to providing clean water to every household in his constituency.
“Our strength lies in unity,” Hon. Gagdi said. “Together, guided by integrity and a shared love for our culture, we will build a brighter future for all.”
Puusdung 2025 not only celebrated Ngas traditions but also reinforced the role of culture in uniting communities, fostering peace, and driving development in Plateau State.
