Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman Gar, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Plateau State, has been honoured with the Governance and Leadership Excellence Award at the 11th edition of the Plateau Man of the Year Awards (PMYA) for his outstanding contributions to grassroots governance and public service.
The award recognizes his role in approving the promotion of 9,530 local government staff, clearing long-standing backlogs inherited by the present administration and boosting morale across the 17 local government councils in the state.
Chief Usman has also strengthened capacity within the local government system by facilitating 43 training programmes that benefited 2,343 staff, aimed at improving professionalism, efficiency, and effective service delivery.
In addition, he has played a key role in addressing workers’ welfare by supporting the clearance of salary and pension arrears, bringing relief to local government workers, teachers, and pensioners across Plateau State.
His leadership has further enhanced security and development through the provision of 35 Hilux vehicles for security agencies, support for Operation Rainbow, office renovations, and the distribution of fertilizers to rural farmers.
By upholding due process in the selection of traditional rulers and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar has demonstrated people-centred leadership qualities that earned him recognition at the Plateau Man of the Year Awards.
The 2025 edition of the Plateau Man of the Year Awards is set to hold on Saturday, 8th February 2026, at the Usiju World Event Centre in Jos, bringing together distinguished personalities, public servants, and stakeholders to celebrate outstanding achievements and contributions to the development of Plateau State.
