The Plateau State Ministry of Education has officially announced January 12, 2026, as the date for the resumption of schools across the state. The decision follows a temporary closure prompted by rising security concerns in several areas.

At a press briefing, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Sadiya Ibrahim Yero, explained that the government has implemented measures to strengthen the security of educational institutions and ensure a safe learning environment for students and staff.

Mrs. Yero highlighted that over 1,400 security personnel, trained under Operation Rainbow, have been deployed to conduct regular patrols and work closely with local authorities to maintain stability within school premises.

The ministry is also collaborating with the Safe School Initiative to further enhance school safety, ensuring that all preventive measures are in place before students return.

Expressing gratitude to parents and stakeholders, Mrs. Yero urged the public to remain vigilant, emphasizing the slogan: “You see something, you say something.” She commended their patience and cooperation during the period of closure.

To address the academic gaps caused by the hiatus, school administrators have been instructed to organize extra lessons for students. Schools are also expected to strengthen health and hygiene protocols as part of the transition back to regular academic activities.

The ministry further directed that regular administrative meetings be held to monitor progress, ensuring a smooth and safe resumption of learning across all schools in Plateau State.
