The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, has disclosed that about 9.2 million beneficiary households across Nigeria have received at least the first tranche of ₦25,000 under the Federal Government’s cash transfer programme.

Doro made the announcement during the implementation briefing and press conference of the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer programme (HoPE-CT).

He explained that while the first tranche has reached millions, the second and third tranches are progressing steadily across the country.

According to him, over 7.2 million beneficiaries have received the second tranche, while about 6.5 million have received the third, with disbursement still ongoing nationwide.

Doro stated that “through the HoPE Cash Transfer Programme, implemented under the National Social Safety Nets Project — Scale Up (NASSP-SU), the Federal Government is delivering direct financial support to poor and vulnerable households across the country.”

“Under this intervention, eligible households receive ₦75,000 distributed over three tranches, helping families meet essential needs such as food, healthcare, and education.”

He revealed that the programme, which targets 15 million vulnerable Nigerians, is expected to be achieved by June this year, noting that the figures represent real households being supported.

The minister added that women account for 58.7 percent of beneficiaries, showing the government’s commitment to strengthening household welfare and promoting women’s economic participation.

Doro emphasized that participation in the programme is completely free, warning Nigerians not to pay any money to access the intervention.

Meanwhile, officials from the National Cash Transfer Office and the National Identity Management Commission confirmed that the programme, funded by an $800 million World Bank loan, continues to expand, with millions of records verified to ensure transparency and proper targeting of beneficiaries.
