The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has hailed the Nigerian Army’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and professionalism, describing it as an enduring inspiration to the nation’s Armed Forces.

Air Marshal Aneke spoke on Monday during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 in Port Harcourt, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Congratulating the Nigerian Army on its 163rd anniversary, the Air Chief paid tribute to generations of soldiers who have defended Nigeria with dedication and honour.
He recalled the exploits of Nigerian troops during the 1941 East African Campaign in the Second World War, saying their bravery remains a source of pride for the military.
“The exceptional bravery, resilience and professionalism demonstrated by those gallant soldiers laid a proud foundation that continues to inspire today’s Nigerian Army,” he said.
The Air Chief said the partnership between the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army has remained crucial in the fight against terrorism and other security threats.
According to him, the Air Force continues to provide intelligence, surveillance, air mobility, precision strikes and close air support to enhance the effectiveness of ground operations.
He noted that the ceremony also showcased the strong collaboration between both services, as a Nigerian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft deployed military skydivers during the event.
Air Marshal Aneke congratulated the Chief of Army Staff, officers, soldiers, veterans and their families for their patriotism and unwavering commitment to national service.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to strengthening joint operations, stressing that unity, professionalism and closer cooperation among the Armed Forces remain key to overcoming Nigeria’s security challenges and securing lasting peace.
