The Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Benard Soepding Alkali, has officially flagged off the distribution of Christmas packages to the people of Mikang as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas celebrations.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Alkali announced that each ward in the local government is to receive 100 bags of rice, alongside wrappers and Kampala materials, to ensure that families across the wards are able to celebrate the festive season in comfort and dignity.
The Chairman explained that the gesture is in keeping with the spirit of Christmas, which emphasizes love, sharing, compassion, and care for one another—especially at the grassroots level. He noted that the initiative is designed to cushion the effects of prevailing economic challenges and to ensure that no ward is left out of the season’s joy.
Dr. Alkali further emphasized that councilors must ensure the Christmas packages reach the most vulnerable members of their respective wards, stressing that the exercise must be carried out with fairness, transparency, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He warned against the politicization of the distribution process, noting that the initiative is purely humanitarian and intended to serve the collective interest of the people, irrespective of political affiliation.
In addition to the ward-based distribution, the Chairman disclosed that monetary gifts have also been approved for council staff, political appointees, and other critical stakeholders in recognition of their dedication, loyalty, and contributions to the effective administration and development of the Local Government.
According to him, the Christmas packages and financial support reflect his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, staff welfare, and community solidarity, while fostering unity and goodwill among the people.
He urged beneficiaries to celebrate responsibly, sustain the values of peace and harmony during and after the festive period, and continue to support the council’s drive toward sustainable grassroots development.
