The affirmation of Caleb Mutfwang of the PDP as governor and the rejection of the petition submitted by Dr. Nentawe Yilwada of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have sparked continued celebration in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, and its surroundings.
Recalls that Nentawe had petitioned the Tribunal to object to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Mutfwang as the state’s governor.
After receiving 525, 299 votes, Mutfwang was declared the winner, beating Dr. Yiltwatda, who received 481, 370 votes.
The petitioners claimed that because the PDP did not have a structure at the time of the election, Mutfwang was not legitimately nominated and supported by his party and was therefore unable to run.
The Tribunal, represented by Justice Sunday Olurundahunsi, issued its ruling on Friday, dismissing the Petition for lack of merit.
The PDP, he claimed, held a legitimate congress in the State on September 25, 2023.
The panel further declared that a candidate’s nomination and sponsorship are pre-election matters.
The celebration is comparable to the one that met his entry following INEC’s announcement in March.
Supporters, party members, and locals claimed that the tribunal had confirmed the public’s wishes.
