The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, has launched a major agricultural support initiative aimed at empowering farmers and improving food production in Plateau State, with particular focus on Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas.
The intervention includes the distribution of 500 bags of improved rice seeds, Hand Tillers, and 100 units of solar-powered water pumping systems to farmers across the Plateau Central zone as part of efforts to strengthen food security and support irrigation farming.
In addition, Prof. Nentawe donated a tractor to the Fier community to enhance mechanized farming, ease land preparation, and improve agricultural productivity among farmers in the area.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said his decision to support farmers in Plateau State is rooted in his personal background and desire to improve agricultural productivity in local communities.
He explained that the intervention, which includes improved rice seeds and solar-powered irrigation equipment, was designed to help farmers increase production and make farming more sustainable.
The APC National Chairman noted that the support followed requests from organized farmers who sought assistance to improve their farming activities and increase yields during the current farming season.
He added that the solar-powered irrigation systems would help farmers reduce the cost of farming and enable them to cultivate their crops throughout the year.
“The irrigation equipment will enable farmers pump water using solar energy, thereby reducing the cost of fuel and supporting all-year farming,” he said.
Prof. Nentawe also encouraged farmers to take advantage of the support provided and remain committed to improving agricultural production across the state.

The Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Area, Hon. Felix Gonung, commended the APC National Chairman for the intervention, describing it as a long-awaited support for farmers.
“This is one of its kind that we have been praying for. It is the cry of our farmers to have this kind of support. Today, your presence is enough to change the narrative of farming in this land,” he said.

Also commending, the Executive Chairman of Kanke Local Government Area, Hon. Lapchin Golime, appreciated the initiative and assured of grassroots support.
“We will join hands together to make sure that this liberation will carry the gospel down to the grassroots. We will walk shoulder to shoulder to make sure that the one million votes promised by Mr President becomes a reality,” he stated.

The Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, said the intervention would help address poverty at the grassroots level.
He noted that many farmers lack farm implements and depend mainly on their physical strength, which has limited their ability to expand production.
Hon. Mwolpun also stressed the need for government to invest more in agricultural infrastructure to move farming beyond subsistence level and make it easier for farmers to succeed.

Prof. Nengak Joje, Grand Patron of Farmers in Pankshin and Kanke, commended the initiative by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, describing it as transformative for local farmers.
The Grand Patron emphasized the long-term impact of the initiative, saying, “If this program succeeds, it will ensure that the dream of lifting farmers out of cycles of poverty will come to pass.”
