Hon. Ajang Alfred Iliya, Member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajang’s defection was welcomed by former deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Babayo Gagdi, among other lawmakers at the House of Representatives in Abuja.
This move is seen as a significant step forward for the APC in Plateau State, particularly in the Northern Senatorial District, where the party aims to consolidate its influence.
It could be recalled that Hon. Dalyop Chollom, also known as Sanchos, the member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom, recently defected to the APC as well.
Ajang and Chollom defection reflects a growing trend of lawmakers in Plateau North moving towards the APC, signaling potential political shifts ahead of future elections and legislative activities.
These defections have sparked discussions among political stakeholders, with reactions varying from support to criticism. While some Labour Party loyalists expressed disappointment, the defecting lawmakers emphasized that their primary focus remains on delivering development and better governance to their constituencies. They have called on their supporters to join them in making the APC a stronger platform for the advancement of Plateau State.
Ajang expressed confidence that his move to the APC would enhance his ability to serve his constituents more effectively.
