As the October 9, 2024 election draws near, candidates are on their toes, traversing the length and breadth of Bassa Local Government Area in Plateau State, canvassing for support.

Dr. Joshua Sunday Riti, the Chairmanship candidate of the PDP is a Humanitarian who has always sought to promote human welfare. He understands the value of human life. Over the years, He has been consistent in the practice of benevolent treatments and provision of assistance to other humans with the aim of reducing suffering and improving the conditions of humanity. He has consistently paid WAEC/NECO fees for underprivileged students in his community, assisted students in tertiary institutions with tuition fees, amongst others.
As a development economist, Dr. Riti understands economic growth, poverty, and development in low-income and middle-income societies, both theoretically and practically. Bringing his professional acumen to bear, He has analyzed the factors that contribute to or hinder economic progress in Bassa including, but not limited to deficit in human capital development, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agricultural productivity. Dr. Riti has identified effective strategies for promoting sustainable development, and improving the standard of living in Bassa, including using the Council’s resources to empower women and youths with profitable skills, support small and medium enterprises, revamp dying sectors, and partnering with relevant Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations to rebuild other critical sectors.
Dr. Riti, a trained academician and educator understands the value of education and intends to roll out scholarship and bursary allowance schemes to assist students in their academic pursuits. He also intends to revive adult education for adults who may want to gain knowledge, regardless of their age groups. The Local Education authority will be well funded to deliver conducive learning environments for students, and will ensure that teachers who educate students are well trained.
Engr. Israel Amabu, the Deputy Chairmanship candidate is a trained engineer. Engr. Amabu brings on board technical knowledge, alongside top-notch managerial skill.
Engr. Amabu will assist Dr. Riti in the discharge of duties, and from professional experience, contribute to infrastructural development, monitoring and ensuring nothing short of quality is delivered.
Engr. Amabu, a community leader, understands community relations, and will, together with Dr. Riti, engage regularly will communities to foster effective relationship, and understand community needs as time changes, with their peculiarities.
