The Center for Youth Participation Dialogue and Advocacy Africa has called for full investigation into the cause of the Friday 12th July 2024 School Building collapse which claimed the lives of at least 20 students/pupils of All Saints Academy, Busa-Buji, Jos North LGA.
This was contained in a condolence message conveyed in statement issued by the Executive Director of CYPA Africa, Ambassador Chris Iyama in Jos on Friday 12th July 2024 after an on the spot assessment of the situation.
Iyama, while commending the efforts of citizens, government officials and security agencies for their swift intervention at the site of the incident which facilitated the rescue of hundreds of trapped pupils, students and staff of the school, he also called on the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang to launch a full scale investigation to determine the cause of the tragic incident to ensure that it never happens again. He also called on the Governor to declare two days of mourning in solidarity with the families of the deceased and the injured.
“We are saddened by the tragic news of the collapse of a two-story building of Saints Academy, a secondary school in the Busa-Buji neighborhood of Jos North LGA, earlier today which led to the death of many students and leaving others critically injured. It’s a sad day for the good and peace-loving people of Plateau State. Our heart goes out to the families of all those who lost their loved ones and all those who sustained injuries due to this unfortunate incident. We pray that God’s Spirit continues to comfort all the bereaved families in these trying times.”
“We want to thank the combined efforts of Plateau Citizens, NEMA, SEMA, JMDB, and security agencies who responded swiftly to rescue trapped victims.We call on the Plateau State Government to launch an immediate investigation and set up an unbiased panel of inquiry to ascertain the cause of the collapsed structure of Saint Academy.”
“Lastly, we call on the Plateau State Governor Barr Caleb Mutfang to immediately declare a 2-day State Mourning to mourn our departed future leaders and their teachers who lost their lives to this ugly incident and pray that this unfortunate loss never happens again in Plateau State.”
