Despite facing severe political Challenges, Plateau State House of Assembly has successfully passed seven critical bills, demonstrating remarkable legislative resilience.
During a press briefing, Speaker Gabriel Dewan described the difficulties faced by the 10th Assembly. He characterized the first part of his tenure, which began in November, as disruptive with political disagreements and challenges to the assimilation of both new and returning members. However, the parliament managed to resolve these problems without causing any delays to its legislative sessions.
According to Dewan, the governor has approved two of the seven bills, while others are still waiting.The Plateau State Electricity Bill and Plateau State Minimum Wage Bill, which aim to improve infrastructural and economic conditions, are among the most significant measures passed.
In addition to the legislative achievements, the assembly also adopted motions for the resettlement of internally displaced persons and for enhancing scholarship opportunities for Plateau indigenes. Dewan commended the assembly members for their unwavering commitment to their legislative duties and their ability to set aside political differences to work for the benefit of the state’s citizens.
