The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Mrs. Caroline Pangiang has promised to fight against child trafficking, and violence against women and also to empower women In Plateau State.
The Newly appointed Commissioner disclosed this in an interview with The Plateau Bloggers and Online Media (PLABOMA) in Jos after being sworn in by His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, The Executive Governor of Plateau State on Friday the 4th of August, 2023.
Hon. Pangiang said her appointment is quite timely and she has a huge task ahead of her especially the rising cases of violence against women and children, child abuse, and trafficking.
She stated that “I will put all hands on deck to tackle the menace that is bedeviling the society which is The girl child education, to fight the discrimination against women and also child abuses are the key factor I will work on”.
“My Mission as a commissioner for women’s affairs is to engage women in various skills acquisition and also to partner with the office of the first lady of the state and at the national level to make sure women are empowered”.
“I will ensure that plateau women are brought to the limelight and encourage women to come out and get involved in politics and also be captains of industries. I will also engage in all meaningful ways of livelihood because women as mothers of the society have a great role to play”.
According to the former Supervisory Councilor of Mikang, Hon. Mrs Pangiang said that women are supposed to be good role models in society and that is what she wants to achieve with her wealth of experience. It could be recalled that during her time of councilorship, she engaged women in various skills acquisition.
Furthermore, Hon. Pangiang stated that her ministry will widely consult and involved all state actors to fight against child trafficking and abuses on the plateau. She also said that she is not selected as commissioner for Mikang alone but as commissioner of plateau state and she is representing the women and that she will put up her best to see that women are protected and well represented.
Hon. Caroline Pangiang also pointed out that she will look at ways to Factor out how to support women in various areas of endeavors in day-to-day activities and dealings.
According to the former State House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Pangiang said that She will work out loans for women to engage in various businesses in the state, and by so doing the internally generated revenue of the state (IGR) will grow, This and more shall achieve.
Despite the challenges being faced in the state like the insecurity, women and children are the most affected, and the Governor who is very passionate about the situation in the state and the condition of women due to the crisis has always reached out to the women in various ways and now that the ministry has Her as the commissioner, so many interventions will come for the women through her office by the Executive Governor and also well-spirited individuals.
“We will work for the best global practice and explore all angles with the help of the Executive Governor. The women of Plateau state will have a cause to smile as the Governor is gender sensitive and he has involved women all through, we will engage women in different places and try to address the challenges they face”.
Hon. Caroline used the opportunity to thank the Governor for finding her worthy to serve as a member of the State Executive Council (SEC) and as the Commissioner for Women Affairs Plateau State. She also use the medium to thank the good people of Mikang for their support and called on women to support her and the government for them to enjoy the dividends of democracy and most importantly to continue praying for the plateau state.
