The captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, William Troost-Ekong has been reportedly ruled out of the season due to a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg.

The POAK defender picked up a knock during Nigeria’s opening game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea, which ended 1-1. He is expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, which will most likely rule him out of this season, which is a big blow for POAK.

The 30-year-old missed the Eagle’s final group game against Guinea-Bissau, but he played through the injury in the second round, quarter-final, semi-final, and final against Cameroon, Angola, South Africa, and Cote d’Ivoire, respectively.

Ekong emerged as the most valuable player of AFCON 2023, he scored three goals for Nigeria, including the goal against Ivory Coast in the final.
