The Senate called Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, on Thursday to testify over the death of Ms. Greatness Olorunfemi, a “one chance” bus victim, in Abuja.
This came after Senator Asuquo Ekpenyon’s motion was approved during the plenary in Abuja.
The Gunshots Act of 2017 was broken when the victim was left at the hospital to bleed to death. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and his Health counterpart Ali Pate are set to come before the lawmakers to explain why.
Last Tuesday, Olorunfemi passed away from wounds she received in the incident at the Maitama General Hospital.
The crooks attacked the victim before throwing her out of the bus while she was still suffering from several injuries. She had boarded the bus along the Maitama/Kubwa motorway.
Good Samaritans rushed her to Maitama General Hospital right away, but the hospital’s personnel wouldn’t treat her because of a police report.
A detailed inquiry into Olorunfemi’s death is to be conducted by the Senate’s Standing Committees on Health and Police, with a report due in two weeks.
