The first-team player Antony’s status has received another update from Manchester United Football Club.
On Friday, September 29, 2023, the club announced via its official website that the Brazilian international was back in training and will be eligible for selection. The club will continue to monitor the matter while the UK Police continue their investigation, the statement claims.
“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so. As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The footballer was charged with physical and sexual assault by his ex-girlfriend while they were still together. But Antony has consistently maintained his innocence in the matter.
When the police finished their investigation, Manchester United first suspended the player from all club-related activities. Nevertheless, the Brazilian FA continues to suspend him from the national team.
