President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Yakubu Dashe Gunya as the substantive Executive Director/Director-General of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, Plateau State.
The appointment takes immediate effect from July 21, 2026, for a five-year tenure.
A statement by the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) said Dr. Gunya emerged after a competitive process involving examinations and interviews for candidates who applied for the position.
It said the appointment was approved by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha.
Dr. Gunya was appointed alongside Prof. Abdullahi Ahmed, who will serve as Provost of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, and Dr. Moshood Popoola, appointed Provost of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan.
Presenting the appointment letters, the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, urged the appointees to align with President Tinubu’s food security agenda.
He charged them to “key into the food sustainability agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through making the institutions citadels of knowledge.”
Dabban also urged the new chief executives to demonstrate professionalism and diligence in the discharge of their duties.
He further tasked them with “improving governance, enhancing research capacity, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, promoting staff welfare, and advancing the National Agricultural Research System.”
The National Veterinary Research Institute, headquartered in Vom, is Nigeria’s leading institution for veterinary research, vaccine production, animal disease surveillance and other livestock health interventions.
