The governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed that the state is still a safe haven for all Nigerians.
At the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang welcomed Mallam Balarabe Ilelah, the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and other Directors of the Commission on Tuesday.
The Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc. Samuel Jatau, spoke on behalf of Governor Mutfwang, who characterised Plateau state as a vibrant tourism centre in Nigeria with tremendous untapped potential.
He promised the NBC that the federal government would assist a smooth switch to digital, with Plateau serving as the pilot state.
Additionally, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to looking into payment methods in order to clear up outstanding debt and extend the PRTVC, Plateau Radio Television Corporation, licence.
He claimed that despite the state’s dire financial circumstances, the resolve to continue informing, educating, and entertaining the populace stands.
The NBC’s Director General, Mallam Balarabe Ilelah, said that the Commission was prepared to start the digital switch-off in Plateau State.
He emphasised that the Commission wanted to recognise Plateau as the first state in Nigeria to stop analogue television transmission because of its historical significance in television broadcasting.
He delightedly acknowledged Jos’ crucial contribution to the development of American television.
The State Government was urged to form a committee to handle all the relevant details for the switch-off’s smooth execution by Mallam Balarabe Ilelah.
