The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to resign from his position to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat.
He described the claim as a mere rumour and urged the public to disregard it.
The speculation followed a report by Daily Trust, which listed his name among officials who may step down to pursue elective positions after a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Jasper Adeleye, clarified that there is no such intention.
Adeleye emphasized that Doro remains committed to supporting the administration, having been recently appointed by the president.
He noted that the minister is focused on delivering on his mandate rather than seeking another political office at this time.
“The speculations are understandable, given that the Honourable Minister had, before his appointment, indicated interest in the Plateau North senatorial contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress,” Adeleye said.
“However, he is fully focused on the task of coordinating humanitarian interventions and reducing poverty in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added, warning that such rumours could distract from the minister’s work.
