As part of his Christmas activities, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Plateau State, Hon. Musa Ashoms, joined the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Zandi Chapter, for an interdenominational Christmas service aimed at reviving an age-long tradition of joint celebration in the community.

The service brought together Christians from different denominations and villages in Zandi to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and promote unity, peace, and love among the people.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ashoms said the decision to revive the interdenominational Christmas celebration was inspired by the values it instilled during their formative years. He recalled that Christians in Zandi once celebrated Christmas together as one body, regardless of denominational differences, a practice that fostered unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, such unity is still needed today to drive meaningful development, stressing that progress is best achieved when people work together in harmony.

To support CAN Zandi and encourage the sustainability of the joint celebration, Hon. Ashoms donated ₦1.5 million. He was accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council, Hon. Atsen Yusuf Musa, who also donated ₦100,000. Other notable personalities at the event included church leaders, traditional rulers, and worshippers from across the community.

After the church service, the Commissioner proceeded to the final of the 11th edition of a football tournament he initiated 11 years ago, which has since become an annual event in Zandi. The tournament, established to promote grassroots sports and positive youth engagement, was specially played this year in his honour, with ten teams participating.

During the final match between Nakwang Football Club and Fadan Zigam, Hon. Ashoms made additional cash donations and presented jerseys to the participating teams, further demonstrating his commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports.

The match ended in a goalless draw, with Fadan Zigam emerging winners after a 4–3 victory in the penalty shootout.
