Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has questioned why the Federal Government continues to negotiate with terrorists instead of taking firm and decisive action. He raised the concern during the Plateau Unity Carols Festival held at the Ten Commandments Monument in Jos.
He said Nigerians have the right to seek support from the international community whenever the government is unable to protect them. According to him, there should be no apology for calling for global assistance in addressing the country’s security challenges.
Obasanjo stressed that while prayer remains important, Nigerians must also demand responsibility from their leaders. He maintained that both citizens and government must take action to end the persistent killings across the country.
He expressed disappointment that despite improved capacity to track and identify criminals, authorities still fail to act. He questioned the practice of paying criminals and later denying such actions, describing it as unacceptable.
The former president lamented that Nigerians continue to lose their lives due to the government’s inability to take necessary steps. He warned that the situation must not be allowed to continue.
He emphasized that every Nigerian life is valuable, regardless of religion or background. He said the killings must stop and urged the government to urgently do what is required to protect its people.
